Akiko Yanagimoto is a visual artist who initiates
a new category "Domestic Art" related to house,
country, and daily life, and makes embroidery works based on it.
she uses word "domestic" from both meanings
of home and of own country, and it originates in sticking to
the way of handmade by using a domestic material, too.
Her embroidery makes a clear distinction from so-called embroidery
though today there is an impression that
the number of artists who use embroidery has increased.
Her work changes daily life into a mysterious view of the world
through her aspect by using familiar material that everyone knows.
As a Domestic Art project, she is making an art work
based on specific families who move to a new residential quarter in Groningen.
She actually visited to their old house to get inspiration of
the families and would put it into her art work.
The art work will be exhibited in their new house
as a souvenir of their past days and a celebration of new life.
It is a proposal that make art exist as a part of life.
This project will be shown at The Wall House#2, too.
